The following story describes how Forensic Logic COPLINK provided critical information for a homicide.

In March of 2021, an investigator was assigned to a homicide that occurred in San Francisco. The victim and the suspect were engaged in a verbal argument. The suspect left the scene but returned a few minutes later. The suspect confronted the victim as he stood inside of a bus stop and shot him several times. The victim died at the scene.

During the course of the investigation, the investigator learned the suspect’s name and date of birth. He also found out what kind of car he drove but had no idea of his whereabouts. He couldn’t contact the suspect’s relatives or friends in fear that he might flee or destroy any evidence associated with the homicide.

In an effort to determine the suspect’s location, he used Coplink and conducted a search of the suspect. By inputting the name and date of birth, the results showed the suspect was stopped by the Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) for a traffic violation on 04/10/21.

He contacted the LVMPD Records department who sent him a copy of the Body-Worn Camera (BWC) from the officer who contacted the suspect. After reviewing the footage, he found that where the LVMPD officer stopped a white-colored sports car bearing license plate # CA/----584.   The driver verbally identified himself to the officer and provided him with an image of his driver's license on his cell phone and verbally provided his date of birth.   The suspect was a match to my homicide suspect.  They had the same complexion, same hairstyle, and same facial structure.

"The results from the Coplink search led to the positive identification of the suspect.  I was also able to track the suspect and when he traveled back to San Francisco, he was arrested and is now awaiting trial for murder. Without the information obtained from COPLINK, I would not have known the suspect's whereabouts." - William Pon, Investigator at San Francisco PD
