After 25 years of service as an ATF Special Agent with a primary focus on illicit firearms trafficking and violent street gangs, I’m well versed in the tools utilized for firearms enforcement. Forensic logic is a critical tool in fighting violent gun crime as it puts all pieces of information together to help investigators see the whole picture, identify the offender and bring them to justice.”

Todd Reichert joined Forensic Logic in April 2019 as a Law Enforcement Liaison/Customer Success Manager.  Todd was the Administrator for the Texas Anti-Gang Center – North Texas (TAG) after retiring as an Assistant Special Agent in Charge (ASAC) with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in the Houston Field Division.  During his time with ATF, his primary focus was on illicit firearms trafficking and violent street gangs as a street agent and first line supervisor in Chicago, Illinois. As a result, he is well versed in tools utilized for firearms enforcement, investigations and related firearms violence.

During his time at ATF, Todd became an expert on firearm technologies such as ETrace, NIBIN, and Shot Spotter and their application in firearm investigations.  All of these technologies help provide missing pieces that are critical in identifying “Serial Shooters”.  Serial Shooters make up a small percentage of offenders that account for a large percentage of violent crime.  It was during his time at ATF that Todd realized that tools such as COPLINK Search (formerly known as LEAP Search) take the critical information from essential firearm tools and consolidate them for one complete picture.

Todd’s career as a street agent predated the Forensic Logic platforms allowing him to speak to the value of how COPLINK Search helped ATF save time and increase productivity.  As a Lead Control Agent, prior to using Forensic Logic, Todd had to manually analyze all reports coming in related to a case in order to make thousands of records retrievable and useable for investigators.  Once implemented, Forensic Logic made what used to be manual an effortless and extremely efficient process. “The ability to make millions of records nationwide useable and actionable intelligence from multiple agencies was pivotal to our investigations”, said Todd.  “Had this technology been available earlier, there is no doubt that large, comprehensive, complex investigations would have been brought to a successful conclusion in a much shorter time frame”.

Todd has seen firsthand how Forensic Logic’s technology can help law enforcement improve efficiencies and solve crime.  Forensic Logic’s technology has application for the small to the complex national investigations such as the Murrah Building Bombing, the Olympic Park and Abortion Clinic Bombings and others like them throughout our history, as well as the everyday challenges when combatting violent crime.  In Chicago, as supervisor of the Firearms Trafficking group and a Firearms Trafficking Taskforce comprised of ATF Agents, Illinois State Police and the Chicago Police Department, Todd was responsible for making NIBIN intelligence applicable. Programs such as HIDTA’s Case Explorer were utilized as well as basic Excel spreadsheets to try and enter data from shooting incidents into a program in order to identify trends, commonalities, and suspects among shootings.  Todd describes how this “effort was extremely labor intensive to the point of total ineffectiveness.  Forensic Logic resolves this issue making the links automatically without manual input of data.”

“Forensic Logic provides the investigator the ability to look at the thread of intelligence leads buried below the mechanics of the ballistics, the shot locations, and the first retail purchaser of the crime gun, leading to the identification of the criminal. This multi facet approach allows agencies to efficiently and effectively focus valuable resources on targets that are responsible for the majority of violent crime in an area.  Deploying the tools to identify puzzle pieces is critical and becomes extremely effective with Forensic Logic as their products consolidate the information in order to find the associations needed to identify the offenders.”
